Is Your Business Website Ready for 2019?

With a new year here, business owners are back from the holidays and making big plans for 2019. As part of that, many are wondering whether their websites are positioned correctly for online sales and lead generation. We have grown accustomed to this, and have learned to expect a lot of phone calls in January.

2019 web design

If you haven’t taken a moment to contact us yet, or aren’t even a Weblinx client, you might be looking for some quick tips you can use to prepare your web presence for the year ahead. To help you out, today we want to present you with some simple reminders we give to our own clients.

Here are a handful of steps you can take to prepare your business website for a busy and profitable 2019…

Begin With a Website Audit

If you don’t know exactly what’s happening with your website, the first step is to have it audited by a team of creative professionals. That just means letting us look through your content and coding to see whether your pages load quickly, whether you have duplicated text, or if there are any technical issues with your programming or plug-ins. Any of these could slow down your website, signal a security issue, or cause Google to ignore your pages.

Check Up on the Competition

It’s always smart, at the beginning of any new year, to check up on the competition. That’s particularly true in the internet where your closest competitors are just a click away. You don’t have to spend a lot of time on this activity, but you should have a sense of whether the other businesses in your market have added new features and content or are ramping up their advertising. That way you can keep up and avoid being blindsided by any gains they make.

Update the Content on Your Website

Is the content on your website completely up-to-date, or does it reference old calendar items, employees who are no longer with your business, or possibly even products and prices that don’t still exist? Business owners put off content updates because it means spending time on things like writing, proofreading, and page reviews, but this is a necessary task. You won’t have a better time or occasion to update your website, so don’t mistake the chance to dig into your pages now.

Develop a Comprehensive Online Marketing Plan

You already know, of course, that your website doesn’t have a lot of value without an ongoing marketing plan that helps you attract visitors and customers. This is a good time to remind yourself of that and avoid leaving anything to chance. Make sure you know what you’re going to do with your blog, online ads, social media profiles, and search engine optimization campaigns (at a minimum) for the next few months. That way you can get 2019 off to a great start and have some success to build on as you move forward.
